Temporary Traffic Adjustments (Week of August 26-30) In order to install a storm water drain for the new middle school, traffic patterns around Vance Middle School will change for approximately five days, beginning with afternoon dismissal of Monday, August 26. Please note the following: The driveway and parking in front of the school will be closed. The front entrance will be closed. The right lane of Edgemont Avenue will be closed. Visitors will park along Garland Street and enter the side entrance on the left of the building. Car riders will access campus the same. However, those in the LEFT drop-off or pick-up lane, will be instructed to go straight across Edgemont from Columbia. Those in the RIGHT lane will continue to be instructed to turn RIGHT. Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year! We've had lots going on this summer preparing to welcome you and your children back! Along with all the usual back-to-school excitement, the construction of our new middle school is well underway. As with any major construction project, it presents several challenges: one being the impact to the roads around the school. Safety is our number one priority! We need your help! We've developed a temporary drop-off and pick-up plan for car and bus riders for the beginning of school. We realize this is a major transition. As we implement the plan and construction progresses, we will make adjustments as needed to make things flow as smoothly as possible. VMS Traffic Plan Map-Click to View Map Visitor parking will be in the front of the building from 7:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and after 2:45 p.m. Visitor parking before 7:45 a.m. and between 2:00-2:30 p.m. will be on Garland Street on the school side. Walkers will enter and exit the front door and the cafeteria doors. Bikers will arrive, park, and enter in the front of the building. Buses will drop off and pick up in front of VMS for morning and afternoon. Car drop off will start at 7:05 a.m. Do not arrive on VMS campus until 7:05 a.m. Car pick up will start at 2:30 p.m. Do not arrive on VMS campus until 2:30 p.m.Car riders may access VMS by Tremont or Columbia. After student drop off for those who access on Tremont, cars will turn left onto Columbia and then right only on Edgemont. Cars who access Columbia via College Avenue, will drop off on Columbia after the Tremont intersection. You must drop off your child on the street that you use to access the school (Tremont or Columbia). As you approach VMS campus, please watch for individuals in yellow vests and help us ensure a safe pathway for your child. Of course if you have questions, contact us in the VMS main office at (423) 652-9449. Special thanks to Bristol Tennessee Police Department to help make our arrival and dismissal safe.
