Mask Information

Mask Mandate Extended Through October 22

The district-wide mask mandate will be extended through Friday, October 22. With increased travel and other activities among students and staff during Fall Break, we feel it is important to continue our Significant Spread Protocols upon our return to school. We will continue to evaluate the spread of the virus in the community, our district, and at each school to determine if and/or where the Significant Spread Protocols, including masking, are necessary moving forward. If you would like to opt your child out of the mask mandate and have not done so already, you must contact your child’s school for a copy of the form.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends universal indoor masking in K-12 educational settings and emphasizes the importance of wearing masks to reduce transmission of COVID-19 in schools. Many school-aged children are not yet eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, leaving them more susceptible to infection. Therefore, to ensure that students and teachers are able to safely continue in-person instruction, BTCS COVID-19 Protocols strongly recommend that all students and staff wear masks inside our school buildings.

In addition, based on the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and district, Bristol Tennessee City Schools may implement temporary mask mandates and other additional measures as needed during the 2021-2022 school year to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Pursuant to Governor Lee’s Executive Order No. 84, of August 16, 2021, parent(s)/guardian(s) have the option to opt their child out of any requirements to wear face coverings in schools.

By completing an opt-out form, you are giving permission for your child to not wear a face covering while attending Bristol Tennessee City Schools. This permission does not apply to any local, state or federal order, such as riding a school bus, or any TSSAA rule. A separate form must be completed for each student for whom you are giving permission. This form will remain in effect for your child related to any mask mandates issued for the 2021-2022 school year.

As of Friday, September 3, we are no longer accepting online opt-out forms. You may print and complete the downloadable copy below or contact the office at your child's school for a printed copy.
