Before you drop kick your computer out the window (or into the hall if you don't have a window), take a deep breath, count to ten, and try the following...

So you just received a new Promethean Board and document camera and are psyched about using it in your classroom. You stay late to prepare your lesson and can't sleep that night because you are so excited about using it the following day! You get to school early the next morning, only to find that your computer won't start. AARRRRRGH!!!! Try the following...

1. Make sure your computer and monitor is plugged in to an electrical outlet and/or the powerstrip is on.

2. Try plugging in another small electrical appliance (electric pencil sharpener, clock, radio, etc) to the same outlet to make sure the outlet is getting power. If not, try another outlet or notify your building's tech contact (your principal will let you know who this is).

3. Make sure that your monitor is plugged into your computer.

If you try all of the above and you are still at the boiling point, find a working computer and navigate to http://helpdesk.btcs.org and enter a help desk ticket for your problem. Please provide the following information...

A description of the problem.
Include your own troubleshooting methods that have already been attempted, specific times when the problem occurs, and any consistent occurrences that may contribute to the problem. The more details you give at this point will help in determining the issue and contributing to the solution to the problem.

Include the Asset Control Number of the item that is having the problem.
This is the 4-5 digit number that can be found on the small white sticker. This number is accompanied with a bar code and the words "PROPERTY OF BRISTOL TENNESSEE CITY SCHOOLS"

Be patient, but follow up if necessary.
We will address your problem as soon as possible.However, if it has been more than four school days since you reported your problem, please follow up with your building level technology contact and request a status update.

Always have a backup plan.
Unfortunately, machines can have bad days. So make sure you are prepared to go on without them if necessary.
