Todd Daggs – 1985 (Tennessee High School)
Todd Daggs was one of the most prolific running backs in the history of Tennessee High School.
Daggs set 15 school records before he graduated and still holds the mark for most points in a 10-game season (156), most yards rushing in a season (1,735 in 1984), most career yards (3,702 from ’82-’84), touchdowns in 10 games (24), touchdowns in 11 games (25), career touchdowns (51 from ’82-’84), total offense in 10 games (1,777 in ’84), longest kickoff return (99 yards in ’84), and longest TD run (99 yards in ’84). He is tied the record for most points in a game (30 in ’84) and most TDs in a game (5 in ’84).
Daggs, who also starred on the THS track team, was named to the Class AAA All-State team his senior season when he had five games in which he rushed for more than 200 yards and averaged 173 yards per game. He was also selected to play in the Tennessee-Kentucky All-Star Game and was WCYB’s Prep Player of the Year in 1984.
Daggs was named to the All-City team as a sophomore, junior, and senior, selected on both offense and defense in 1984. He was All-Big 6 as a junior and senior and was the Offensive Player of the Year in ’84.
He led the Big 8 Conference in rushing his junior and senior years and was named the Big 9 Offensive Player of the Year both years. He was also named to the All-Upper East Tennessee team in ’83 and ’84. In 1983, he ran for 255 yards on 29 carries in the Shrine Bowl, breaking the single-game rushing record set by Viking great George Heath (229 yards).
Daggs, named the THS football team's MVP his senior year, played at Lees-McRae College, where he was an All-American for the Bobcats.
