RETURNING STUDENT INFORMATION UPDATE
(ALL STUDENTS)

Parents and guardians of all BTCS students must complete the Returning Student Information Update online form each school year. A parent/guardian of each student should have received an email on July 17 with the information needed to complete the process. Information was also mailed to each student's home the week of July 15. Like the email, the letter contained information specific to your child's account log in information.

It is critical that all BTCS parents/guardians complete this process as it replaces many of the paper forms which were once sent home at the beginning of the school year.

By completing this process, you can ensure your child’s school has updated contact information for you in case of emergency and any relevant medical information we need regarding your child. The Returning Student Information Update also includes information we are required to maintain by the state and federal government for EVERY student. Information and a link to complete the process are outlined below.

LAPTOP INFORMATION (4-12)

As part of the Returning Student Information Update, all parents must complete the online portion of the laptop process. The online portion includes: 1) verifying and updating your child's information, 2) watching a brief training video, and 3) paying (or selecting a payment method for) the $50 technology fee. This process must be completed and any technology fines paid by August 9, or your child will become a day user only and will not be permitted to take their laptop home. If you need assistance or access to a computer to complete the online process, elementary parents may request assistance at their school's Open House, and TMS or THS parents may schedule an appointment with their school's Counseling Office: Tennessee Middle-call (423) 652-9449 or Tennessee High-call (423) 652-9494 and press "2" for the Counseling Office.

CONSENT FOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

All parents must complete a form for every student Pre-K through 12th grade indicating whether you give consent for your student to receive basic medical care while at school and mental health service support. Please go to our Student Services website for more information and to access the form.

SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS

    STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE

BTCS offers voluntary student accident insurance from Scholastic. We encourage you to consider this optional coverage which could help pay for your child’s medical care if an accident happens at school. Your child will receive a brochure at the beginning of the school year, or you can go online to www.kidguardinsurance.com and search for your school in the drop-down menu on the home page.

    POWERSCHOOL
Stay informed about your child's grades and attendance by logging in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal anytime! Report cards are also available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal at the end of each nine weeks.

    Existing Parent Account
If you had an account last year, it has not changed, and it is still active. To log in, click "Existing Parent or Student Account." If you have forgotten your password, click "Forgot Username or Password?" for help.

    New Parent Account
If you have never accessed the parent portal before, click "New Parent Account." This page will allow you to create a single parent account for all children using each child's Access ID and Access Password. This information was provided in a personalized email and a letter that was mailed to your home in mid-July. If you do not have access to it, please contact your child's school.

    CLASSLINK
ClassLink is a single-sign-on platform which allows teachers and students to use one username and password to access online resources, such as BrainPop, Renaissance Place (AR), Canvas, and email. ClassLink performs best using the Google Chrome browser.

    CANVAS

Canvas is where your child and you will access online information such as course and school announcements, content, and assignments for their scheduled classes this year.

    STUDENT EMAIL
Students in grades 4-12 are provided with a school district email account but are only able to communicate with other BTCS students and faculty. You may read more about student email accounts in the student handbook.

    PARENT NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

BTCS uses the Apptegy “Alerts” system to communicate with parents via phone, text, and email. When you enroll your child in the district or complete the Returning Student Information Update at the beginning of each school year, you may list two phone numbers and two email addresses. If you need to change your contact information during the school year, please contact your child's school. It is very important to keep your information updated in the event of an emergency.

    SCHOOL MEALS

BTCS provides FREE breakfast and lunch to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy a variety of healthy and appetizing food options daily! Menus are available via Nutrislice, which is accessible via a mobile app or on Nutrislice via the web. Parents can view and print menus, access nutritional information and allergens, etc. Download the Nutrislice app from the App Store or Google Play.

Students may purchase food outside the free meals, such as a la carte items. For these additional purchases, we encourage you to use MySchoolBucks to manage your child's account. MySchoolBucks allows you to view your child's purchase history, set up notifications for low balances, and add funds to your child's lunch account. Please note a $1.25 fee applies to each credit card transaction. Go to myschoolbucks.com or download the mobile app. Students may also pay cash. No credit or debit cards are accepted on-site.

    SCHOOL SAFETY

School safety is THE number one priority in Bristol Tennessee City Schools. The district has established the Safe School Helpline as a free, convenient, confidential way to anonymously report information about situations that might affect safety. We encourage parents to join us in learning more about the Safe School Helpline and other school safety resources at the link above.
